i will say that this is the first time in a long, long time since president clinton that i actually have real hope that we can get something done to save lives. it's been a tough battle. and i would say to so many of the victims out there, there are times when we lose faith. there are times when we kind of want to give up. and all i can say is we can't give up. and the shootings have only gotten worse and there are things we could have done so many years ago that could have prevented so many of these killings. not only the mass killings, it's also the shootings that happen every single day. since what happened in connecticut, with those children and the teachers, 900 people have died from gun violence. i keep count. i keep count. because it's going to be up to all of us to try to talk to some of our members on both sides of the aisle, that we as americans will stand with them if they stand with us in trying to reduce gun violence. they do not have to be afraid of the radical n.r.a. and i say that because there are many gun owners in this country that are good citizens and they should not
